'Origin of Species 2009'

londonprintstudio, in partnership with the University of Brighton, are pleased to present work by students from the Master of Printmaking and Professional practice programme.
Each year, the graduating class produces an editioned box set as part of their studies as both a rigorous technical and conceptual challenge.
Following a visit by exhibiting artist, Beauvais Lyon, current students created images in a wide range of print media in response to the work of Charles Darwin to coincide with the current gallery show, Darwin's Dreams: The Roots of Coincidence.
Questions of evolution, devolution, typography, aesthetics, florae and faunae collided with technical challenges in polymer printing, giclee printing, screenprint, intaglio and lithography.
The result is a study in contrast, and a fitting tribute to the work of the great naturalist who both linked great ideas and divided great minds.
The students would like to thank John Phillips, Sue Gollifer, Beauvais Lyons, Shirley Chubb and the staff at londonprintstudio and the University of Brighton for their support and contributions.
