Glynis Porter

I have been studying the face through self-portraits.
In etching and solar prints, I am aiming to show a sense of what's going on behind the face we present to the world.
I have used line drawings as deeply bitten etchings, combined with textures and diary entries, to merge the face with thoughts inside the head reflecting the outward expression.
I have also made a series of paper casts of my face to see how the 3-D aspect of the face affects the image, in topology transformation. The image is distorted to a greater or lesser degree according to the information it contains, although retaining its essential elements. As well as the physical distortions created by doing this, I am interested in seeing to what extent each material conveys a mood and character to the face despite being laid over the same form.
