Vicky Langdon
I am a silk screen printer working with both prints on paper and fabric. The subject of my most recent work is urban birds, particularly the pigeon. Pigeons with mutated appearance, also the birds with the most characterful expressions. For me the pigeons symbolise the city itself. They represent the dirt and grime but also the adaptability and diversity of inner city living. By screen-printing layered graphic colour and bitmapped images I create a feeling of fast production and disposability. The images are reminiscent of the 'pop-art' technique of using the enlarged dots of a commercial poster.
